A shopping trip, and a country drive. An auto repair, and a midday lunch. A drive to work, reflecting on the past, the present, the surroundings, the variables, the philosophy that presented itself in the clouds.

A coffee shop. They stand in line. They get their coffee. She looks at merchandise, goods, gifts, music. He claims two seats at a rail table right up against the window. A car passes. A woman in the passenger seat looks up…

She:
Caring for patients, and filling out forms. Working late hours, and a midnight snack. A short nap stolen in an unassigned room before the next emergency, before the next crisis, the next blood-soaked pile of gauze and metal instruments, the philosophy that presented itself in the pinging machines.

A coffee shop. They stand in line. They get their coffee and leave. He gets in and starts the car without opening her door. She sits down, buckles up, rolls down the window. The car moves. A man in the window watches her as she passes…
